Having moved to New York City, I am not yet teaching.  So the information below is not accurate at this time.  However, I will establish a studio and a teaching practice as soon as I get my bearings.  Right now I am studying and printing at Robert Blackburn Studios in NYC.  My friend Carol Krieder has also moved to NYC and we are hoping to establish a teaching practice. For the time being the information below will just introduce you to my intent.

I will be teaching painting and printmaking in my studio.  Private and semi-private students work for three to six hours at a time in the studio with me.  The lessons can be designed and tailored to the student’s schedule and level of experience.  I teach individually or in very small groups.

Group classes need to be four students or fewer.  Group classes are set up as ongoing pursuit of artistic goals among compatible students.  We meet once a week.  Class includes instruction in technique, principles and motivation as well as group critique and support.  I supply the major studio supplies although students need to provide their own paint, canvas and printmaking matrixes as expertise develops.

Individual instruction is one-on-one work.  I provide guidance in gaining technical expertise while exploring aesthetics, motivation, personal expression and creativity.  Generally instruction is in oil painting and/or Woodcut printmaking, two areas of emphasis in my practice, however classes will include drawing exercises, some general photography for image making and other printmaking techniques.  I will work alongside you and help you develop as an artist.  Scheduling is by mutual agreement.

In both the individual classes and the group days, my intention is to aid in development of personal relationship to art that functions to nourish my students through time.

I will offer workshops with my friend and colleague Carol Kreider. You can find Carol and her work on Facebook!  She is a wonderful artist, longtime teacher and is an expert at, among other techniques, Monotype printmaking. Monotypes are an exciting area of printmaking marrying the process-oriented work of making prints with the immediacy of painting. It is fun and rewarding!  We offer workshops in monotypes, drypoint, chine colle and woodcuts, leaning into our areas of expertise.

We work with small groups of students and everyone goes home with an object of beauty he has created!  We teach several techniques over a two-day period – six hours a day.  Our students pack their lunches  and we picnic together at lunchtime. Materials are included. (You bring an apron!)

The following may be offered in the future:
Carol and I also have created a perfect date night for the closet artists out there.  ART PARTY!  We offer an evening class for individuals or couples who would like to have a glass of wine and light hors d’oeuvres while learning to create luscious monotypes.  Couples.  Girlfriends.  A teen party? (no wine there!)  Children’s birthday art parties could be scheduled for weekend afternoons. Should be fun.
